Ungol, also called Spiders, are creatures in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor and Middle-earth: Shadow of War. While large spiders are known to roam Mordor and Middle-earth, they are harmless in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor, and can be enemies or allies in Middle-earth: Shadow of War.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor[]
These are oversized spiders; the evil, intelligent children of the Spider Queen Shelob, and descendants of the Ungoliant.
While they've taken Nan Ungol (Sindarin for "Valley of the Spiders") as their primary home, they've since spread across Mordor taking residence in its caves and other dark places, and are actively reporting back to their queen.
Their nests and lairs are littered with the crushed bones of their prey. They are not afraid to make victims of the encroaching Uruks.
The recent stirrings in Mordor have emboldened the Ungol and garnered the attention of the Spider Queen, but to what end remains a mystery.

Spinning Webs Across Mordor
"See the webs? It's Spiders. Filthy creatures. Likely coming up from the valley down south." -- Gorgum Irontooth
Most Orcs regard an individual Spider as bad luck and a swarm as an ill omen. They dismiss the Spiders of Mordor as mere pests, not realizing that each crawling arachnid might be the eyes and ears of Shelob. Unlike Rats, Spiders are mere nuisances; they don't steal enough food to notice, and only a few have bites that are at all dangerous. But with their ability to climb and scurry, there's almost no place in Mordor they can't reach, and eradicating them is a fool's errand.
