Ephel Dúath, also known as the Outer Fence or the Mountains of Shadow, is a possible location in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. It is a range of mountains forming Mordor's southern and western border.
The mountain range meets the Ered Lithui at the Black Gate. These two mountain ranges seal off Mordor from three sides, preventing an invasion. Cirith Ungol leads through the Mountains of Shadow from the stairs behind Minas Morgul. It was through this route that Gollum led the Ring into Mordor.
