Shadow of Mordor’s Gameplay Walkthrough Has Arrived

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor gameplay has arrived. Get ready for your first look at the Nemesis System and the uruk of Sauron's army as Talion tracks down a high value target that he’s been after for some time.

I'd stick around to say more, but I'd rather not put even a single sentence more between you and the action you'll soon be a part of within the borders of Mordor.

Crafting Udûn: Concept Art Exploration

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor takes place in Mordor, The Land of Shadow, during a time that's never been seen before. Sauron has only just returned to The Black Land, and much of its old-world charm is still intact. And due to that, the art team here at Monolith had a chance to reimagine Mordor and explore what it looked like before Mount Doom scarred the land.

“We use all the tools available to us as artists to invoke that emotional response from the player. Palette, lighting, atmosphere, and silhouette are all part of communicating a sense of immersion and overall tone,” said Art Director, Philip Straub, when describing this early look at Udûn, just one area within Mordor that you'll explore in-game. “During the time in which our story ta…

Good expectations

Not just me but a lot of people have hope for this game. Not that the others were not good. But they lack the storytelling new visions new directions. Although I was worried that the creators of F.E.A.R (Monolith) are working on this game. But after watching videos with Mark De Plater (Director Of Design) for this game I started to realize the passion that he and  Colleagues have for the License and have a respect for it.  They know how Tolkien visioned his books  and Peter jackson is working with them as well. I have high expectaions for this game and I know for a fact that Monolith will surpass my expectaions.

Thankyou for Bring us back to Middle-Earth Monolith

Concerns

Being a long time Tolkien-gaming fan, these are the four points that I always seem to stumble upon when I visit LOTR-forums.

1) Flashy Magic: A concern that has popped up on most LOTR forums that I've visited. Magic in Tolkien-based games should be rather subtler than it is in other universes (Elder Scrolls, Arcania, Dragon Age, ... ). The universe is expanded enough to allow some freedom (the half-Wraith creation being one of them) but just don't push it to the limit with flashy effects and a complete dependance on the use of magic. The real magic in the Tolkien-universe is the strenght of one's persona, whether it's driven by courage, love or revenge.

2) Middle-earth or LOTR? It's subtle, but it is there. This is the first Tolkien-based …

Excitement

Shadow of Mordor has ignited a real sense of excitement in me that I have not had in a video game since the ending of Mass Effect 3 had me questioning the medium I'd held so dear for years. The GameInformer interviews I watched had me glued to the screen and very much looking forward to this ambitious, exciting looking game.

GameInformer - A Biography of Talion

GameInformer has just released their third piece of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor coverage, a biography of the protagonist Talion, a loyal member of the Rangers of Gondor.

The article talks about the contrast between on the one side the Rangers of the North, a reclusive group of scouts who steer clear of the civilizations they protect, and on the other end of the spectrum the Nazgûl, the twisted ringwraiths who serve Sauron. As Talion is both a ranger and a wraith, this creates an interesting opportunity for the narrative and gameplay for Monolith.

Official Shadow of Mordor Community Unveiled

What evil lies in the shadow of Mordor? Uruk? The Nazgûl? The rising tide of Sauron’s army?

Well… yes. But that’s not what I’m talking about. What I’m referring to is an exciting new video game and corresponding Wikia Official Community! Neither of which are “evil,” I might add.

In Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor (coming to current- and next-gen consoles in 2014), players take on the role of Talion – a valiant ranger whose family is slain the night Sauron and his army return to Mordor, moments before his own life is taken. Resurrected by a Spirit of vengeance and empowered with Wraith abilities, Talion ventures into Mordor and vows to destroy those who’ve wronged him. Through the course of Talion’s personal vendetta, players uncover the truth…
