Before you approach Sauron's Uruk hordes, you'll want to understand how you can strategically manipulate and control and fight back against the enemy that took everything from you.

Here's a quick rundown of the options you'll have at your beck and call when dominating a foe in Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor.

If you're on the hunt for a specific target, you can Interrogate any enemy to learn a Captain's location in the world. Additionally, there are special, well-connected Uruk (Worms and other Captains) that will grant you more information about a Captain, including his strengths and weaknesses.

This particular option can be used on Captains and Warchiefs. When using the Command option, you'll send the Captain on a Mission. What is this Missio…

The bow Talion now wields, Azkâr, is an ancient weapon that belongs to the Wraith. Reaching into the Wraith world to summon its power, Talion will be able to decimate foes from afar in a host of ways that will have even the most accomplished Uruk Captains running for their lives.

By using the Runes you gain from slaying powerful foes, you’ll be able to take the fight to Sauron's Army in ways that better fit your play style, and grow the legend of this noble weapon.

A trusted weapon, Azkâr is always ready for action. With the assistance of the Bow Master Rune you'll be able to land arrows harder than ever before, increasing arrow damage across the board by 50%.

The Captains of Mordor are the most treacherous troops at Sauron's disposal. While …

Talion's blade, Urfael, is one of the most trustworthy tools you'll have in your arsenal. Using the Runes you've collected by killing Captains and Warchiefs in Mordor you'll be able to upgrade your blade to better suit your combat style.

Here's a sneak peek at a few runes that could help to make your weapons become legendary.

If your preference is to get the drop on your foes, and you'd rather sneak up on Sauron's forces and finish them off with a quiet strike, the Hidden Blade Rune is for you. Applying this rune to your weapon will make stealth strikes hit significantly harder.

You're fighting tooth and nail, you're pulling from down deep in order to take a large group of Sauron's most battle-hardened Uruk, and your hit counter is growing wi…

As a way to promote the awesome work you all do here on the Shadow of Mordor Wikia, we want to produce a brand new Fannotation video! What is a fannotation video you ask? It is "pop-up" style annotation of a trailer with expert knowledge pulled right from the Wikia community. We've done them a few times now, and they're pretty great. You check an example right HERE.

We think this could work great with the latest "Banished from Death" Trailer, embedded below. Have some inside knowledge to share about the game, the characters, or Middle Earth history? Help us fannotate by leaving time stamps and facts or trivia in the comments below. Then come back next week when we post the final video where we'll show off your expertise!

We have an upcoming opportunity to ask Monolith's Director of Design Michael de Plater questions about Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. If you have any burning questions about the game, be it about the nemesis system, the environments of Mordor or anything else you'd like to know more about, please leave them in the comment section below.

Naturally we'll try to have as many questions answered as we can, but keep in mind that we probably won't be able to have them all answered. We'll try our best though!

Once the interview is done, we'll post a Q&A Expert Showcase video on this blog, so stay tuned.

To participate, just leave your questions for Michael de Plater in the comments.

    SXSW Qwizards Answers

    March 7, 2014 by Xean

If you're at SXSW, and are watching the Wikia Qwizards presentation, you know that they've asked you to download the Palantir App to see if you can find the answer to their quiz question.  That answer can be found in this blog.

    The Answer:

A unique feature of Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor is the Nemesis system. Every enemy players' face is a unique individual, differentiated by their personality, strengths and weaknesses. These enemies are shaped by their encounters with the player to create personal arch-enemies who are unique to every gameplay session. Players must out think each distinctively different enemy they encounter to infiltrate the ranks and dominate within the dynamic world that remembers and adapts to their actions and choices.

Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor takes place in Mordor, The Land of Shadow, during a time that's never been seen before. Sauron has only just returned to The Black Land, and much of its old-world charm is still intact. And due to that, the art team here at Monolith had a chance to reimagine Mordor and explore what it looked like before Mount Doom scarred the land.

“We use all the tools available to us as artists to invoke that emotional response from the player. Palette, lighting, atmosphere, and silhouette are all part of communicating a sense of immersion and overall tone,” said Art Director, Philip Straub, when describing this early look at Udûn, just one area within Mordor that you'll explore in-game. “During the time in which our story ta…
